Meet Overseer and First Lady
Overseer Elvis L. Bowman
Overseer Elvis L. Bowman Sr. is the esteemed Senior Pastor of Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center. Raised as a preacher’s kid (“PK”), he has been deeply rooted in the church and the Christian faith from an early age. At just five years old, he began playing keyboards and served under his father, E.L. Bowman, the Founding Pastor of Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center, as a staff musician. In 1974, he was appointed Minister of Music, leading the music department, and also served as the Church Business Manager until he became the Pastor.
An accomplished musician and music teacher, Overseer Bowman has mastered several instruments, including the trumpet, bass, violin, keyboards, and percussion. He is also a talented singer and songwriter, credited with producing several gospel recordings with the renowned Greater Mt. Tabor YYAC and the nationally recognized group “From Earth to Glory” (FETG). Notable songs like “Whatever It Takes” and “Thanksgiving for Victory” remain favorites. Many FETG members have worked with national recording artists, including Kirk Franklin and the Family, contributing to top gospel projects. Overseer Bowman is highly respected among musicians and national artists across America, who credit him with laying the foundation for their musical success.
In 1980, after spending over 50 days in a Fort Worth hospital due to a brain tumor diagnosis, Overseer Bowman preached his first sermon in January 1981, titled “Fighting Fire with Fireman Jesus.” He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in music from the University of Texas at Arlington. Although preaching and pastoring were not initially in his plans, he accepted the call to preach during his hospital stay and has since pursued theological education and certification from various institutions.
Following his father’s diagnosis with prostate cancer, Rev. Elvis Bowman Sr. was entrusted with the pastoral mantle, taking the helm to advance Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center’s vision. Under his leadership, the church, located at 2513 S. Edgewood Ter in S.E. Fort Worth, has grown to over 700 congregants and transitioned from a traditional Baptist Church to a Full Gospel Baptist Church. Inspired by Bishop Paul S. Morton’s passion for Five-Fold Ministry, the church operates with the power and authority of the Holy Ghost.
In 2008, Pastor Elvis was elevated to Full Gospel District Overseer for Tarrant County, Texas, under the leadership of Bishop Paul S. Morton, and continues to serve in this capacity. Greater Mt. Tabor remains a member of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, functioning as a non-denominational church with autonomy while willingly acknowledging and serving Bishop Morton.
Overseer Bowman celebrated ten years as Pastor for Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center in February 2012. The church strives to remain on the cutting edge of Christian worship and technology. With a well-established social media team, one can enjoy live video streaming of each Sunday morning service at 9:15 a.m. on GMTCC.org, as well as on platforms like GMTCClive, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Additionally, Overseer Bowman has a passion for community service and outreach. He has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting the local community. Under his guidance, Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center has implemented various programs, including food drives, educational workshops, and youth mentorship programs, all designed to address the needs of the community and foster spiritual and personal growth.
Overseer Bowman is the husband of First Lady Margie Bowman and the father of four children: Elvis Jr., Eric, Ejuan, and Marsheldondria. His commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and spiritually enriching environment continues to inspire and impact lives both within and beyond the church community.
